27 Sep Running Out of September …
Another Saturday has rolled around, the last weekend in September. Still lots of green on the trees, so I’ve put off cleaning out my flower pots, but plan to get at it this week while it’s still mild. Not my favourite task ever.
Well, I did manage to buckle down and get some writing in each day, achieving about 4000 words this past week. I should break 20,000 words in the upcoming week if I keep the same schedule. I’m trying to accomplish as much as I can before my Dundurn editor sends her changes for Nobody Tell, which is the eighth Stonechild book in the series. They notified me this week that I’ll be working with Shannon Whibbs, an editor I had for the last few books, so that was good news. She already has a sense of the characters and the storylines.
So next up on the event schedule is the launch of the anthology A Capital Crime on Thursday, October 16. It was originally slated to be at the OPL main branch, but has been moved to Club Saw. I’m to be on a panel with Katie Tallo and Lis Angus, moderated by Madona Skaff. All are welcome to this free event. I’m also going to visit Mayor Sutcliffe in the afternoon at City Hall to present him with a copy since the book is made up of entirely Ottawa stories.

I received an invitation this week to speak by Zoom with readers at the Terrace Bay Library in October. This is my hometown — 130 miles east of Thunder Bay on the shore of Lake Superior. (You would have gone through it on your way west on Highway 17.) Anyhow, the library is new since I was last in town, and they have all of my books. It should be a fun evening and just maybe a walk down memory lane.
Don Butler organized a table at the Orleans Christmas Craft sale on December 6 at the Shenkman Centre, so I agreed to partner with him in the morning (10:00-1:00). Peggy Blair and John Delacourt will spell us off in the afternoon. Don and I worked the same show last year and it went great, so once more into the breach.

Before this however, I’ll be taking part in three events in November, which you can find listed on the home page of my website. I’ll be taking December off except for the Orleans gig.
Well time for another cup of joe before I get myself in gear. It promises to be another lovely autumn day, and I plan to spend most of it outdoors. Then on, Sunday, a friend and I will be going to see Emma Donoghue at the Ottawa International Writers Festival in the evening. I hope you also have a good weekend planned. See you back here next Saturday!
