13 Sep Road Trip
Good Saturday morning! We are half-way through September with some gorgeous weather in the Ottawa Valley. The leaves are just beginning to change as the nights get crispy. I love this time of year.
Last weekend was the inaugural St. Lawrence Writers Festival in the beautiful town of Brockville. Ted and I drove down Saturday after lunch and caught Linwood Barclay in conversation with Terry Fallis at the Arts Hub – a church near the downtown that was perfect for the festival.

Linwood and Terry
We returned after dinner to watch Ali Hassan’s standup comedy act, which was a lot of fun. My mystery panel was Sunday at one with Katie Tallo and John Delacourt, moderated by Don Butler. We shared a lot of laughs while imparting information about our books and writing routines. All in all, it was a great time. Thank you to all the volunteers who made it such a special event, in particular Katherine Hobbs and Rod Carley who led the charge. They are planning to hold it again next year, and it’s well worth the short drive to Brockville!

This week also saw the cover reveal for A Capital Mystery, an anthology spearheaded by Mike Martin and due for release October 15th. I have a story in the anthology alongside some terrific Ottawa writers. You can pre-order from Ottawa Press and Publishing now at a discounted price.

So, I’m not doing any public events for the next few weeks, but have signed on to three in November. They are listed on the main page of my website, and I’ll speak more about them as the dates get closer. This week, I’ll be in Toronto at a book club and I’ll meet my Dundurn editor, so another road trip coming up!
Speaking of which, we left Brockville after the festival and drove to Kingston for the night, staying at the Secret Garden B & B, which is also a location in my next Stonechild book. We toured around some of the other places slated to be in the book, so it was good to do some more research. From there, we went to a cottage on Farren Lake near Perth for a night before driving home the next day. The moon started out blood orange but had faded a bit when I took this photo with the reflection on the lake. It was quite a sight to behold. It is a beautiful time of year 🙂
