October Morning

October Morning

First Saturday in October, and we’re squarely into autumn. I’ve cleaned out 1/3 of my 30 flower pots, but the weather has been so glorious that I’m giving the rest a reprieve until the frost hits. Today, we’re going up to 27 degrees C!

It was a good writing week. I managed to work every day and have reached 21,000 words. I need to pause soon to start making plot notes. It’s hard to take that break while the words are flowing though.

I’ve also heard from my Dundurn editor Shannon that she just completed another book and will begin reading my manuscript (Nobody Tell) for the first time. Nobody else has read it yet, so I’m waiting for her feedback.

I’ve been interviewed in a few publications that should make the October issues. One is only in hard copy and distributed in the Glebe neighbourhood, another is Kitchissippi Times, and the third is Capital Current. We are fortunate to have these publications reporting on local news and events. I’m so grateful that they’re helping to spread the word about my writing and books.

Once again, A Capital Mystery anthology will be released on October 15 with a launch taking place at Club Saw. No need to RSVP if you would like to attend.

Not much else to report this week on the writing front. I’m into the writing, alone at my keyboard part of the process for the month of October. After the October 16 anthology launch, I’ll spend the rest of October either writing or editing. The public appearances pick up again in November.

One lovely afternoon last week, Mary Jane Maffini, Barbara Fradkin and I met for lunch in Wellington West. We talked about all our writing projects and caught up on our lives. Mary Jane is turning her talent to writing plays while Barbara is also part of the Ottawa anthology and she’s recently had an Inspector Green novel published. Also last week, Sharon Buckingham, a screenwriter I met a few years back, spent an afternoon in my back garden talking about writing projects for television and movies — it’s invigorating to talk about the creative process with others who love stories and writing as much as I do.

Well it’s time to get this day underway. Good weekend, everyone!
