12 Apr Not all Fun and Games
Good Saturday morning.
Thinking back over the week, I spent most of it editing the manuscript due June 1st to Dundurn. I’m using post-it notes to jot down the highlights of each chapter, making a timeline to ensure all aligns. In a later chapter, I found an issue with two characters, because the text reads that they hadn’t met up in a while, but they actually had some chapters earlier. It’s this kind of problem that’s easy to fix once everything’s laid out in front of me. I promised Ted I’d have this first edit done by the weekend to spend a day working on taxes. Good to have deadlines to keep me motivated. Sad to have to work on taxes … again. It feels as if it’s always tax time.
I also updated the short story for the Dundurn anthology – if you read last week’s post, I had to pump up the ending. I spent a lot of time last weekend tinkering and am happy to report that the editor liked the final result. I’m not certain when this book will be released, but there’s the editing process ahead. I don’t even know the title of the anthology yet.
I’ve been receiving requests from local stores to do some signings and have only agreed to dates after the May 22 launch of Who Lies in Wait. So far, I’ll be at Chapters Pinecrest on Saturday, June 7 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and Chapters Rideau on Saturday, June 14 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. I’ll be sure to keep all the public appearances updated on the main page of my website. You can also catch me at the Books on Tap event with a number of local authors, writing in various genres on Saturday, May 3 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Kichesippi Brewery at 2265 Robertson Road – come buy a beer and a book!
As you can tell, my life has gotten rather boring as I spend the days working on my laptop. At the end of my work day, I put on an episode of Mad Men as I’m working my way through the series, which I’ve not watched before. I’m up to the sixth season and determined to see it through. It’s well done but some of the characters do some mighty disturbing things. Women weren’t regarded as equals back then (not that long ago), especially in the workplace. I can recall some experiences that wouldn’t be tolerated today – at least not at anywhere I’d want to work. Anyhow, it’s fascinating and addictive television with enough truth to make me cringe pretty much every episode.
