10 May Lots Going On
Good Saturday, everyone. Warm weather coming this week in Ottawa so time to break out the shorts and sandals.
I had a couple of outings this week. Last Saturday afternoon, Don Butler and I drove to Kichissippi Brewery in Belles Corners to take part in an author event called Books on Tap organized by Peggy Blair. It was also great to see crime writers John Delacourt and Mike McCann and to meet lots of readers. It’s gratifying to have people come up to me and say they or their mother or father love my books, and this is happening more and more often. It’s taken twenty-one years, but my name appears to be getting out there!
In the photos, I’m with city counsellor Jeff Leiper and Nancy Reid.
On Friday morning, I was part of an author panel along with Peggy Blair and Myriah Saulnier (Patricia Sutherland moderator), discussing the challenges of self-publishing. This was part of the rural libraries annual conference and held at the Perth & Union District Library. Ted came with me and we stopped for lunch at the Ashton Brew Pub on our way back to Ottawa. Ashton is the location of many scenes in Fatal Harvest, and I could picture Ella Tate and Tony having lunch a few tables over.
And Wednesday, Erik D’Sousa interviewed me for Crime Writers of Canada as part of their series speaking with authors nominated for Awards of Excellence. Erik lives in B.C. so it was a Zoom interview. Here’s the link if you’d like to give a watch.
This coming Monday, I’m visiting a book club in Ottawa South at a community centre. I’ve been sent the questions ahead of time and am told there are expected to be 30-35 people in attendance. It should be a fun time.
And also this past week, I completed my third complete edit of Nobody Tell and still like the story. I say this because after about the sixth edit, I’ll lose heart and think it’s all crap. This happens with every book. Other authors tell me they go through the same self-doubt, not to mention tiring of the book after reading it over a gazillion times. The only thing to do is keep the faith and trust in the process.
So Mother’s Day tomorrow, one of my favourite days of the year! It traditionally means the first visit to a nursery to buy hanging baskets and dinner with family. This year, there will also be brunch. Wishing all of you a lovely weekend too 🙂
