21 Dec Holiday Time
Four days until Christmas day.
It’s been good to wind down and prepare for the holidays. I’ve been getting in some writing on the latest Stonechild book while also working on a short story, but I’m not spending too much time at the keyboard. I’ve been baking and cleaning, gift-buying and tree-trimming in between.
Last Saturday was my final book event of the year. I signed at Chapters Rideau for a couple of hours and sold several books. For those not familiar with Ottawa, this Chapters used to be in a much larger store on Sussex Drive, but a few years ago it moved into the Rideau Centre mall, both locations in the heart of the downtown. The new store is much smaller and has a much different feel than its previous Sussex Drive store or a Chapters in the suburbs. However, as in all the stores I’ve signed in this year, the staff is friendly, and everyone made me feel welcome. It’s been a true pleasure to chat with people and introduce them to my books.
So next Saturday, I’ll do my annual recap of the year and will look ahead to 2025. It’s amazing to me how quickly this year has sped by, never mind being a quarter of the way through this century. I remember the worry about what would happen to all the computers when the year 2000 arrived … doesn’t seem that long ago!
I know everyone is busy this weekend so I won’t take up more of your time. We were at a double birthday party at a local pub last evening and got home late. This evening is another social gathering with family time together beginning Christmas Eve. I hope you are also enjoying this lead up to the holidays, no matter if or how you celebrate. It’s really all about time together with family and friends, a good meal or two, and slowing down to enjoy the moments. Happy winter solstice, everyone – the days start getting longer tomorrow 🙂
