February Update

February Update

Happy Saturday! The first weeks of 2025 have whipped past and it’s almost Valentine’s Day, i.e., half-way through the month.

I spent most of this week writing and managed just over 5,000 words. I’m at 53,000 words and entering the last stretch. I’ll continue keeping up the pace because I’m taking next week off to watch the Scotties. As I’ve blogged earlier, both our daughters are playing in the national competition (Lisa for Quebec and Julia for Nunavut), and they’re in different pools, meaning we’ll be watching three games a day … not much time for writing!

It was my Monday to blog on 7 Criminal Minds, and the question this week asked how we shake off lethargy and get energized in the dark days of February. Here is a link to my answer. My fellow bloggers give some interesting responses – we live in different parts of the world, from India, to L.A. to Vancouver, to Ottawa, which has an influence on what impacts our moods and energy. And I’d like to send a huge thank you to my fellow blogger Gabriel Valjan for creating this ad for my upcoming book.

Other than writing, not much went on this week in my writing world. I did speak with a few bookstore managers and they’ve asked me to do more store signings. Since I’m focusing on writing for the next few months, I said that we could set up dates after Who Lies in Wait is out May 1st. It’s so good to have their support! Speaking of which, in this time of uncertainty, please consider buying Canadian books and keeping out authors writing. Our literature is a big part of our national identity, and we have so much to celebrate. If you’re looking for Canadian mystery, Crime Writers of Canada has a list of authors from across the country. You can search out their work at this link.

Time to get this weekend underway – the sun is already up and while it’s been snowy and cold so far this month, the light is different and there’s the odd sniff of spring in the air some days – or maybe, it’s just my over-active imagination 🙂 I say this as another big snowstorm is due to roll in this evening. A girl can dream…
