09 Nov And the Christmas Sales Begin!
Another week in the books. This feels like the calm before the storm or events that are coming my way.
Next Saturday, November 16 between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m., I’ll be signing books at Chapter Rideau. It’s been a number of years since I signed at this store and never in their new location. I know the manager from other Chapters stores though, and am pleased to reconnect.
Thursday morning, Don Butler and I will be appearing on the CTV morning show around 7:50 to talk about Crime for Christmas, which will take place Tuesday, November 19, between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. We’ll be joining a bevy of talented local authors at the Barrhaven Legion (3500 Fallowfield Road) for a Christmas book sale. Spearheaded by Peggy Blair, this is your chance to meet some local mystery writers, buy a signed copy of a book or two (or three), for Christmas gifts or for your own reading pleasure. In my case, and likely the same for other authors, cash or cheques are the safest bets although e-transfers are also possible. There is a cash bar as well, so come have a drink and mingle!
I spent considerable time on contract work with Dundurn this week but also managed to settle down and write, achieving 21,200 words as of yesterday afternoon on the eighth Stonechild manuscript. Dundurn wants this draft by June 1, which seems like a lot of time, but it’s really not. I do feel, however, that I have a good base to the storyline, and I’ve gone back to a daily minimum count of 500 words. I’ve read a few passages aloud to Ted, and he’s given positive feedback … keeps me going.
And regarding my other manuscript, book 4 in the Hunter and Tate series, I can now reveal the title, although not show the cover, which is in development. Who Lies in Wait moves my detective and reporter back into Ottawa to the Rockcliffe neighbourhood with some of the action taking place at Shirley’s Bay. It has been professionally edited and is now with the copy editor for another review. I’ll let you know the launch date in the spring, because we want to throw a party for this one 🙂 (I think we could all use a party.)
Well, my old writing buddy, Trooper, is here to keep me company for the weekend. It’ll mean some games of fetch the ball to break up my computer time, but a little exercise never hurt, and it gets the creative juices flowing. That and a handful of treats.
Have a good, snuggly weekend, everyone as the November weather takes a cold and frosty turn.
