Back at my keyboard and enjoying getting back into my latest manuscript. I organized my post it notes , catching up on the synopsis and then got typing. I managed about 3500 words this week, so coming in around 15,000 words total. I will attempt to keep up the pace for the rest of the month at least.
Sad news on the bookstore front. Coles Billings Bridge will be closing next month, so the signing Don Butler and I had lined up is cancelled. We’re now booked into Chapters Pinecrest on Saturday, June 8 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. I’m also looking into one at Coles Carlingwood. It’s a miserable day when a bookstore closes, especially one that’s been in business for so long and embedded in the community. The store has also been supportive of local authors too over the years.
On balance, I suppose, are the two independent bookstores that opened in Westboro (Westboro Books) and Hintonberg (The Spaniel’s Tale) over the past few years. There is nothing like getting to know the owners and spending time browsing, not to mention going home with some great new books to read.
And finally this week, I sat in two virtual webinars: the first creating black characters, and the second taxes pointers for writers. Both were informative and well worth attending. The second one spurred me to do some bookkeeping yesterday – one of my least favourite, but absolutely necessary, tasks.
