October Morning

October Morning

This is such a beautiful time of year. Changing leaves, farmers’ markets, chilly nights and warm days. I’ve been putting my garden to bed, cleaning out pots and putting them away for winter. Battening down the hatches.

It was a quiet week on the event front although some preparation has been going on behind the scenes. I have three coming up in October, beginning with a signing next Saturday the 10th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Coles Carlingwood. This store is in my neighbourhood and the staff has been really supportive of my books.

On Saturday, October 17, I’ll be one of 25 authors at the largest mystery book fair ever held in the city. We’ll be at the Jack Purcell Community Centre from 1:00 to 4:30. It’s a great chance to meet authors, stock up on books, and get in some Christmas shopping.

Then October 21, I’ll be off to Bouchercon in Calgary with my good friend Katherine Hobbs. We went together on my first Bouchercon in Baltimore some years ago so fitting we keep up the tradition. I’ll be on a panel Thursday morning from 10:15 to 11:00, discussing domestic violence in crime fiction. I’ll also be taking part in an event on Friday morning (11:30) for the anthology A Capital Mystery 2. Saturday morning will find me the Crime Writers of Canada table (9:00 to 10:30), and featured in a game with Anthony Bidulka and Cathy Ace at the CWC pub night. I’ve never been to Calgary before and am excited to see some of the city.

As for my writing, I’m still in the tinkering stage of a new manuscript. I’ve gotten about 2,000 words written as I set up the characters and storylines. I’m still waiting for my editor to return the last manuscript with his changes. I know I’ll need to come up with a new title as the one I chose was recently used – one of my Beta readers pointed this out. Coming up with a title is stressful. I’ve tried a few, but when I do a search, all have been taken.

I also had a publicity call with Dundurn this past week as we talked about promoting the release of Nobody Tell in early January. It seemed so far away, but really is only three months now. The weeks are flying by!
