This and That

This and That

And just like that, we are into November! Of course, everyone in Canada is watching the Blue Jays in the World Series. No matter how it ends, the team has done Canada proud … but it ain’t over yet!

A quieter week on my writing front. I made it out to Jane’s Walk led by Susan Johnston of CKCU radio through Hintonburg and Wellington West last Saturday morning. It was a sunny but chilly day when 30 of us set out on a trek to various locations referenced by local authors in their work. We’d stop and somebody, often the author, would read a section naming the location. I read a paragraph in front of The Wood pub, named in my short story “The Success Story” in the recent anthology A Capital Mystery. Then I walked home, completing a two-hour trek from start to finish, warmed up, ate lunch, and promptly fell asleep in my chair. A great way to start the weekend!

This coming Saturday. November 8 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. is Books on Tap, the second year for this event. I’ll be joining seven other local authors of various genres at Kichesippi Brewery, 2265 Robertson Road. It’s a great chance to grab a beer and a book or two, perhaps start your Christmas shopping.

I’ve also been invited to the Rockland Public Library to visit their book club and to The Book’s Better bookstore in Smiths Falls. I settled on dates in February for each.– a ways off, but as I’ve discovered before, here before you know it. I’ve also got three more signings in Ottawa this November but will take December and January off from publicity.

I also heard from Dundurn with the cover mock up for Nobody Tell. I’m not sure when they’ll be doing the reveal. The editor is still going through the manuscript for the first time, and I should get her edits shortly. As for the manuscript I’m now writing, slow progress this week, but I’m over 30,000 words. I spent two days making chapter notes and a character list, so not a complete waste of the week.

I’ve always found November to be a grey, bleak month as far as the weather goes. We’ve had a couple of days of steady cold rain to herald in the new month, but we’ve got lots of interesting things going on, so I figure this month is going to slide by quite nicely. Don’t forget to set your clocks back tonight!

Go Jays.
