And the Winner is …

And the Winner is …

It’s starting to feel like November: trees are dropping their leaves, overcast sky, cold wind … I’m less than pleased. Monday is federal election day so perhaps more displeasure on the way. We voted in the advance polling, the first time I’ve ever voted ahead of the actual day. Feels good to cast that ballot. Now, I have every right to complain in the event that lunacy wins out. Although I have to say, kudos to anyone who tosses their hat into the political ring. I’m continually impressed by the candidates’ passion and stamina, no matter the party.

This period before the launch of a new book feels like a vacuum in regards to publicity. I’m also waiting for my new publicist to start at Dundurn in November so we haven’t been working on any events as of yet. I did receive some bad news about The Cross where I held the last two book launches – the pub has closed:-( The band that played at the launches is still keen to play at the next one but I’ll have to come up with a suitable venue – wish me luck. I’d like to have one more big party to celebrate the last book in the series. I’ve also noticed that since launching this new site, book sales are up on Amazon, including advance sales for Closing Time. The soft cover and ebook even made second and third place last week in Women Writers category! I’ve also heard from two people who are buying the complete set of Jennifer Bannon books for presents for their kids. The new website displays the books a lot better and includes a synopsis and some review quotes for each book so good for anyone that wants to check out my work.

The Power Lunch producer invited me back on the show and you can catch me this Wednesday (October 23) from noon to 12:30 talking about the news of the day with host Mark Sutcliffe and one other guest, yet to be named. In addition to being on 1310 News radio, the program is simultaneously shown on Rogers Cable 22 and 1310 News Facebook live. I’m guessing we’ll be discussing some election fall out, but you’ll have to tune in to find out for sure.I’ve been having difficulty sitting down at my desk to edit the first draft of the manuscript that I completed last week. Usually I enjoy the editing process but I think that I’m tired of it after having  spent the summer on Closing Time. I’ve added about 2000 words already and am only on page 40 of the rewrites – the manuscript is 175 pages thus far. I have room though. The sweet spot for a mystery/thriller is 90,000 words and I’m currently just over 72,000. Lots of space to fill in plot gaps and throw in more description. I’m definitely going to get going on the edits today …

So time for a walk in this crisp fall morning and then down to business in my computer with another cup of coffee. Wishing everyone a lovely weekend.
