Lots Going On this First Week of December!

Lots Going On this First Week of December!

Such a fine week that was.

Sunday was a marvellous day as our daughter Lisa Weagle and her Jennifer Jones team won the national curling trials and the honour to represent Canada at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. Such a close and hard fought final against a very worthy opponent, Tracy Fleury and her team. I think I aged about ten years in the last two ends, but that is the joy and the agony of sport – in this case the joy!

Monday afternoon, fellow author Don Butler picked me up and we drove to Kemptville where we met Mike Martin and moderator Pam Welling at the North Grenville Public Library for an hour-long book panel. The chat was relaxed and interesting, ably led by Pam. You can listen to the video at your leisure.

Tuesday, my web designer went live with my new book update, so I began posting the Blind Date book cover on my social media to keep pace 🙂 The feedback has been tremendous and I have Laura Boyle to thank for the haunting image and Mary Jane Maffini for her cover quote. I’m also lucky to have two-time Governor General award winner Tim Wynne-Jones give a quote for the back cover, which Laura is currently working on. The book will be uploaded to all the book sites for pre-order come January. If you’d like to read the synopsis, you can find it on the book page of my website.

Wednesday morning, I visited the Twisted Sisters Book Club through the magic of Zoom to talk about my books and writing journey. They had lots of good questions and were a friendly, receptive group. They also kindly made a donation to People, Words and Change on my behalf.

And Thursday, I received a Google alert with a news release from the UK about the most often borrowed audiobooks in the UK public library system for 2021. Imagine my surprise to find Cold Mourning number two behind J. K. Rowlings and Butterfly Kills in eighth place. Here’s the release.

And there’s one more Facebook live event before the holidays. Join us this Tuesday at 7 p.m. EST for a Crime Writers of Canada hour when crime writers from the Ottawa/Eastern Ontario region will ‘speed-date’ and introduce their latest book in a four-minute time slot. The always entertaining Mary Jane Maffini will moderate and Perfect Books on Elgin is featuring our books in their store. Be sure to place your Christmas orders! Give local and pass on the joy of reading.
