31 Oct Let Us Eat Cake
Good almost-afternoon everyone! I’m late blogging today because yesterday was my birthday and we celebrated late into the night in the backyard, socially distanced around a fire pit with a heat lamp hanging from the deck’s ceiling. Even at that, it got mighty chilly by midnight. A memorable Covid birthday that was actually lovely – so many friends and family send good wishes and I was lucky to see a few in person. I guess if this pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that we’re pretty good at improvising and adapting. We’re also mighty good at reaching out to each other when we can’t be closer than six feet.
When your daughter surprises you with champagne and balloons dressed as a dinosaur 🙂
So I’ve been plugging away at going through my latest manuscript, making notes and rewriting chunks of the text. I figure this will take most of the upcoming week as well. I’m at about 47,000 words and aim for 90,000 so have a ways to go yet. As I’ve said in past posts, I’ve kind of lost my momentum and have to force myself to sit at my desk every day. I’m not sure what it is. I have to say that all the positive and encouraging emails and comments on book sites help to keep me working. Here is my blog post for 7 Criminal Minds talking about upcoming books.
I’ve also been working on a project for Eastern Ontario crime writers in my role as Crime Writers of Canada (CWC) director for this area of the country. I’m going to interview one of our authors on Zoom as a trial balloon and will post it on the CWC Youtube channel. If this works out, I’ll widen the offer of an interview to other CWC writers in this region. It’s proven to be a bit of work getting ready but should be fun. Stay tuned to see the final product and to find out just who I’m interviewing 🙂
Hallowe’en tonight and the U.S. presidential election on Tuesday. Don’t know which is scarier. We do live in interesting times. My fingers are crossed for you, my American friends.
Good week, all!
