Into the Holidays

Into the Holidays

Tis the week before Christmas … exactly. Covid is on the rise again and we’re back to hunkering down. We never stopped being careful, so the new government restrictions aren’t hard to follow, but this is still an unsettling time.

So this week, I appeared on CBC radio Ottawa Morning on Thursday at 7:20 a.m. to talk about having two audiobooks in the UK public library’s top ten loans for 2021. You can listen to the ten minute broadcast here. I’ve also received word that CBC is doing a follow up hard copy story – how great is that?!

I managed 5000 words this week on the latest manuscript as I round into the reveal parts of the book, now at the 57,000 word mark. My main characters from Blind Date are fleshing out and a new character involved in the mystery is taking on a major role. I never know which character(s) will rise to become the most interesting when I start writing, but one or two normally do.

Speaking of Blind Date, the back cover is now completed and the audiobook taping is progressing nicely. I’m getting many requests to have the last five books in the Stonechild series made into audiobooks, and I can tell you that Dundurn is considering the project.

It will be a busy week preparing for Christmas. We’ll put up our live tree today and I’ll start some baking tomorrow. I’ve finished gift shopping but have yet to wrap so that’s on the agenda. We have a pre-Christmas dinner with our daughter Lisa and her husband Robin, who will be at his parents on the actual day. Boxing Day, she leaves for mixed double Olympic curling trials in Portage La Prairie, having already secured an Olympic berth with Team Jennifer Jones. (Some exciting curling ahead!) Our other daughter Julia and her dog George will come to stay with us through Christmas and we’re looking forward to spending some time together.

I’ll take a break from this blog next Saturday since it’s Christmas Day, but will be back in two weeks. I wish you and your loved ones a happy, healthy,  safe holiday. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!
