Falling Back

Falling Back

Fall back night for all those on daylight saving time. We gain an hour of sleep but the trade off is darkness settles in around five o’clock. Not my favourite month.

Since I last blogged, I’ve visited two book clubs and met some lovely people. Last Saturday, the host lived a few neighbourhoods over from mine, so very handy. The book club members were mental health care workers employed by the Royal Ottawa Hospital, and very involved in the community. One of the women spear-heads Blues for Youth, which raises money for youth mental health services. They had great questions about my Hunter and Tate series and my writing process and gave me a bouquet of flowers upon leaving.

Then, Thursday evening, I drove to Crystal Beach area for another fun book club. One of the members had asked me to a different book club last year, so it was great to see her again and meet a new group of women. A glass of wine and a good chat — they were quite tickled that I set some of When Last Seen at the Dairy Queen on Bank Street, and one brought DQ dilly bars to celebrate. Here’s a photo of the group!

Book clubs are wonderful. I enjoy getting to meet readers and to listen in on their discussions about my books and  answer their questions. I have one more scheduled for this month, two in January and another in March. If you’d like me to pop into yours, even virtually, send me a message through my contact page.

My next event is with Don Butler at the Cumberland Library on Sunday, November 12 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. We’ve begun working on our presentation; it’s always fun to do one of these with another author and takes the pressure off to some degree. I also have two book signings coming up at Coles Carlingwood (Sat. Nov. 18 from 11-1:00) and Coles Billings Bridge (Sa. Dec. 9 at noon).

Also this week, I took part in an author initiative at Shepherd’s, which is becoming an author/reader hub. They asked us to list our top three reads from last year and you can check out mine at this link.

This was a busy week but I managed to get in some editing, or should I say review of Allister’s edits. I plan to get through the manuscript this week, happy to have only a few commitments. I’ve also been thinking hard about book four and am eager to get back writing. That’s a good sign 🙂

There’s been lots of talk lately about Christmas and the stores are gearing up – I can’t believe it’s come around again! I’m still enjoying autumn and all the fall colours. Let’s stay in this season a while longer …
