I will be attending the Ontario Librarian Association’s luncheon for the Golden Oak nominees on Thursday , June 7th in Toronto. The Second Wife (Orca) is on the shortlist – the winning novel, voted on by readers across the province, will be announced during the event.

I’ll be part of the January 11, 2012 Capital Crime Writers’ meeting with C.B. Forrest, and Nadine Doolitle on a panel exploring such issues as: finding the time to write, getting started on a book idea and keeping the plot and series going. The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Library and Archives on Wellington Street – new members are welcome.

Where do we come up with our ideas? How do we keep a manuscript on track? Is outlining the way to go or is it better to let the muse guide the writing? All of these issues and more will be probed by moderator Wynn Quon as he attempts to get to the bottom of our writing processes, our experiences in the world of publishing and our advice for up and coming writers

The Second Wife has been nominated for the Ontario Library Association’s Golden Oak award.

“The Golden Oak Award reading program provides a unique opportunity for people in adult literacy programs to read books that are interesting and entertaining, yet are not too difficult to read.

Readers who participate in the Golden Oak program get to vote for their favourite book in the month of May and the winner is announced June 7, 2012 at the Learners’ Conference at Toronto Public Library. ”

‘A Day to Kill’ – A Mystery Author Event

Saturday, October 22nd – from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Capital Crime Writers and the Ottawa Public Library present ‘A Day to Kill’. Some of Ottawa’s top mystery writers will be getting together for a day of panels and readings by celebrity guests at the Main Branch of the Ottawa Public Library, 120 Metcalfe Street, in downtown Ottawa. Mary Jane Maffini will also be running a morning workshop concurrently from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. entitled ‘A Character Building Exercise’. Complimentary morning coffee and lunch provided! There will be a reading of In Winter’s Grip by a celebrity guest and I’ll be in an afternoon ‘liars’ panel. The day promises to be great fun.
